Clean Bay
Restaurant Certification Program

Stormwater poses a serious problem to our ocean. Runoff carries improperly disposed waste into the storm drain system, ultimately contaminating the ocean. Restaurants are considered to be high priority sites because of the large amount of waste that they handle. While many restaurants consistently implement best management practices, inspections conducted each year have shown that some restaurants remain out of compliance. The Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission (SMBRC) and the participating cities would like to take this opportunity to recognize those restaurants that have taken the extra effort to be environmentally friendly and safe.
SMBRC and the cities of Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Torrance, Santa Monica, and Rancho Palos Verdes are pleased to participate in the Clean Bay Certification Program for Restaurants. The program’s aim is to recognize all restaurants in our watershed that are actively preventing pollution of our beaches and the Ocean.
Restaurants in the program receive the following benefits:
-
Window display recognizing establishment’s certification and commitment to protecting the Santa Monica Bay
-
Recognition of the restaurant by their city
-
Recognition of restaurant in the local paper
-
Recognition/inclusion of the restaurant on the SMBRC’s Clean Bay web site
-
Increased patronage by environmentally concerned residents
